Duties and Responsibilities
Summary:
The current work modality for this position in an optional hybrid work environment where the employee has the discretion to work remotely two or three days per week.
Under general direction, the Senior Grant Administrator is responsible for providing critical support to an assigned diverse portfolio of sponsored awards. This position requires a knowledge base capable of managing central-level post-award financial administrative support of grant and contract policies and procedures, compliance, regulatory issues, and post-award administration.
The Senior Grant Administrator reports directly to the Director of Sponsored Program Administration and Compliance and is responsible for providing internal support to department Management, Senior Grant Administrators, Grant Administrators and Accountants.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide all phases of post-award financial administrative support for sponsored awards in the assigned portfolio to faculty, administrative, and other support personnel.
- Monitor award expenditures, re-budgeting, cost-sharing, supply and equipment justifications, etc. to ensure costs are allowable, allocable and reasonable.
- Maintain and implement, where appropriate, sound internal accounting controls to efficiently manage assigned awards.
- Collaborate with University personnel at all levels to ensure the successful management and spending of externally and internally funded projects, including principal investigators, department and division administrators, deans and chairs, pre-award administrators and other support personnel.
- Serve as liaison between the University and external funding agencies in matters of financial reporting, budgeting and accounting.
- Review award agreements and prepare the financial account set-up in accordance with award terms and conditions to ensure compliance with federal OMB Uniform Guidance, specific granting agencies’ requirements and internal institutional policies and procedures.
- Analyze and evaluate award budgets for accurate expenditure categories including fringe benefits and facilities and administrative costs.
- Prepare all required external reports according to agency guidelines on a timely and accurate basis.
- Oversee the close out of assigned awards and prepare for an annual audit to ensure compliance with federal OMB Uniform Guidance.
- Daily processing of non-salary and salary expenditures, budget appropriations, financial reporting, and accounting unit maintenance.
- Work as a team member to successfully complete quarterly and annual financial processes and to meet fiscal year close requirements.
- Assist the Director in the training and on-boarding of new departmental staff.
- In addition to daily grant administration functions, this position will be responsible for various projects assigned by the Director to enhance SPA’s processes and procedures.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited 4-year University is preferred, along with 0-3 years of accounting or related experience. In-depth knowledge of Federal research compliance regulations, including OMB 2 CFR 200 is preferred.

Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University in accounting, business, life sciences or related field along with 2 to 4 years of federal and non-federal grant management experience required; advanced degree in accounting, business, life sciences or related field preferred.
Individual must be able to engage in and foster a culture of collaboration and respect. The ability to work with cross functional teams in the research enterprise is critical to establishing effective dialogues, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports, and grant and contract agreements.

Advanced proficiency in information/database management and ad-hoc reporting tools is a plus. Familiarity with financial systems, enterprise content management systems, and supporting software programs (Lawson, DocFinity, and WebFocus) is preferred.
Individuals with either pre- or post-award administration or grant life-cycle experience is encouraged to apply. Working knowledge of non-profit cost principles, including federal OMB 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance is also a plus.
