Oilfield Environmental Specialist Manager
Location & Schedule:
Permian Basin – Midland, Odessa, Kermit (TX) and Carlsbad, Hobbs, Jal (NM)
5&2 (M-F) Schedule

We are seeking an experienced Oilfield Environmental Specialist Manager to lead and oversee environmental compliance and stewardship across our Permian Basin operations. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven environmental professional who thrives in the field, enjoys solving complex challenges, and is passionate about protecting the environment while supporting safe and efficient oil and gas operations.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in environmental regulations, permitting, spill response, remediation, and field operations while providing leadership to environmental programs that support drilling, completions, production, and reclamation activities.
This position is field-based and requires regular travel throughout the Permian Basin.
Key Responsibilities
As the Oilfield Environmental Specialist Manager, you will:
Environmental Leadership
- Lead and manage environmental programs supporting drilling, completions, production, and reclamation activities.
- Serve as the primary environmental resource for operations, land, engineering, and management teams.
- Promote a culture of environmental stewardship and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Maintain compliance with Texas and New Mexico environmental requirements.
- Interpret environmental regulations and provide guidance to operational teams.
Permitting & Environmental Planning
- Prepare, submit, and manage environmental permits for air, water, waste, and land disturbance activities.
- Coordinate permit renewals and maintain regulatory documentation.
- Assist project teams during planning to ensure environmental requirements are addressed early.
Field Inspections & Audits
- Conduct environmental site inspections and compliance audits.
- Perform pre-drill, active operations, and post-drill environmental assessments.
- Develop corrective action plans and verify completion of required improvements.
Spill Response & Remediation
- Lead spill response efforts and environmental incident investigations.
- Coordinate remediation activities with internal teams, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure timely reporting and documentation of environmental incidents.
Contractor & Vendor Management
- Select, oversee, and evaluate environmental contractors and remediation vendors.
- Monitor contractor performance to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Stakeholder Relations
- Build positive working relationships with landowners, regulatory agencies, community representatives, and internal stakeholders.
- Represent the company during inspections, audits, and regulatory meetings.
Reporting & Performance Metrics
- Maintain accurate environmental records and compliance documentation.
- Prepare environmental reports, KPIs, executive summaries, and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor trends and recommend process improvements to reduce environmental risk.
Budget & Risk Management
- Develop and manage environmental budgets and project forecasts.
- Identify environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies that support operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5* years* of environmental experience supporting oil and gas land operations.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or project management experience.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Environmental permitting
- Air quality compliance
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) requirements
- Spill response and remediation
- Environmental reporting and regulatory compliance
- Demonstrated experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with regulators, landowners, contractors, and operational teams.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the Permian Basin and work in remote field environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as:
- CPESC
- CHMM
- Professional Geologist (PG)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Experience managing environmental programs throughout the Permian Basin.
- Experience with GIS platforms and environmental data management systems.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position requires frequent field work and travel throughout the Permian Basin.
Candidates must be able to:
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walk over uneven terrain and active oilfield locations.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including FRCs, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Pass all required site-specific safety orientations and training.
- Respond to environmental incidents outside of normal business hours when necessary.

- Day Rate: $1,000–$1,200 per day, based on experience and qualifications.
